Did you know that in Oregon you don't go to "the beach"? Instead, you go to "the coast". Because of the weather you can't really spend hours and hours on the beach playing in the sand and the water like at other sunny beaches.
But, you can go walk (with your coat and rain boots on) in the sand and gather sea shells
You can stand and stare at the ocean and feel it's enormity and then laugh at the waves coming in over your rain boots
You can discover a different kind of jelly fish that floats on top of the water instead of swimming in it (see the "sail" on the top of the jellyfish? There were hundreds that had been washed ashore by a strong wind)
You can also gorge yourself on the best clam chowder you've ever had served in a sour dough bread bowl
And you can search for whales on the horizon
Sometimes you can look too long and make your 4 year old son very cranky and whiny
Regardless of whether it's "the beach" or "the coast" it's one of my favorite places in the whole world.
